There is often a lack of understanding between the difference in teams and groups. A group refers to a collection of people in a single location or range of locations networked together. At some stage most teams will enter the norming stage, this is when the team individuals start to get to know each other better and understand each others strengths and weaknesses. There are however complications at this stage whereby some members may feel threatened by the amount of responsibility they have been given. However the sense of achievement combined with effective leadership programmes will inspire teams to continue the project.
Performing is the final stage of the project whereby the team is working as one unit in harmony. This is the stage when team work flow is a constant flow that requires minimal effort and no conflict between members. Tasks are completed quickly and effectively because the team members know what their individual roles are and what the game plan is.
Many long standing teams will repeat these stages when changes are made, however this process can be enhanced through an effective change management program.
