So, How Does Strictly Ballroom Work?
Guests are split into teams and are taught either a Latin or a Ballroom dance. Teams can learn a different dance in order to increase variety during the session, or teams can learn the same dance to increase competitiveness!
Each team will be given time to practice their routine and put any finishing touches to it that they may wish. Then comes the big performance! Each couple or team perform their dance routine in front of their colleagues and a panel of judges. The judges will critique their performance and give them scores from 1-10. The team with the highest cumulative score wins the team game.
The winning couple from each team can then dance a head-to-head Grand Final to decide the Ultimate Champion.
Group Sizes:
Small Group (up to 16 participants) - either individual couples or 2 teams of 4 couples, each team learns one dance during a 90 minute lesson. Each couple performs their routine individually.
Medium Group (up to 30 participants) - teams of up to 3 couples, each team learn one dance during a 90 minute lesson. 2 couples from each team perform their routines at the same time. Each couple receives comments & scores.
Large Group (up to 40 participants) - maximum for a comfortable half day event: Up to 5 teams, each team learns one dance during a 90 minute lesson. More than one couple perform their routines at the same time. Each couple receives comments & scores.
Judges can be the teachers themselves or a mix of teachers and guests.
Alternatives Formats:
For larger groups (e.g. 50 or more guests)
We can offer a large group dance class in any of the styles offered, depending on venue.
If necessary multiple teachers can attend, one running the class while the others circulate and demonstrate the steps for guests to copy during the class and then dance with any 'spare' guests or help any couples who are having problems learning.
If required, additional time after the class can be included for guests to practice what they have learnt during the class.
Icebreaker General Dance Lesson:
Usually used at the beginning of the day to 'break the ice' and get everyone into the right mood. It can be a one hour class of any of our offered dance styles to an unlimited number of people.
