Motivating your team, here's some inspiration.
Richard Branson once said that a business has to be involving, it has to be fun and it has to exercise your creative instincts. For any business model to succeed employing the right staff and keeping them happy and involved is paramount to the longevity and structure of your company.
You wouldn't build a house without foundations, structure and the right tools, it should go without saying that the term 'build' means exactly that. So building a team should be no different. If we use the analogy of building a house we would first start with the planning process. A plan is drawn up, approval sought, copies given to everyone involved and then the progress from concept to final masterpiece is undertaken. Everything has to be done step by step in a structured manner, so should team building. Justifying a team building activity is easy, everyone bonds through a shared experience, whether that's paintballing or cake decorating. But each exercise or event should have a cohesive structure with an idea of why you are doing it and what positive outcome you want to achieve.
What are the key areas to consider when executing a team building exercise?
1. Make sure you have a longer term goal, know what you want to achieve from the session.
2. Use a professional company that will have a varied database of activities to choose from. Get creative with this, if nothing quite suits then tailor make something with the outcomes you desire. (Click Here)
3. Make sure the activity is relevant to the goals you have set at work.
4. Choose a task that reflects the mixed abilities in the group, so everyone has a chance of success in some way.
5. Use a facilitator to highlight the parallels to their workplace at the end.
6. Debrief and find an appropriate way to integrate everything learnt back into the workplace.
